A less arbitrary abstraction
My collages are 'sketches' for paintings. In my 'Magazine Ricochet' series of work I follow a formula of selecting just areas of colour whilst eliminating all images and text (except '1' and '0').
A rigorous abstract art is mined from art and design magazines, from advertising and popular culture, recycled, stripped of image and clamour. Declining analogue media destroyed and reused to reference the predominance of digital media; fragile digital media content.
An aesthetic response to, and commentary on, the digital age, and an attempt to incorporate that into the most analogue means of communication, the tradition of painting.
